O exponátu

A typical Polish Konik has a mouse-grey coat with a dark stripe along its back. Its mane and tail are black, while the coat may be lighter or darker. Together these features give it a recognisable appearance, different from many horses used for recreation.

The Polish Konik is small with a stocky, strong build. It is a horse breed, not a term for every small or young horse from Poland. Its uses include leisure riding, driving and hippotherapy.

The breed tolerates difficult weather well and is resourceful in finding food. Koniks can survive temporary shortages of forage and make up for them in a more favourable season. These qualities matter in reserve-based breeding, where animals use extensive land throughout the year.

The history of breeding in Białystok includes the stallions Goliat and Gigant, born in 2014 and 2015 respectively. The mare Jasnota, meanwhile, came from Toruń. One group therefore brings together locally born offspring and an animal brought from another centre.

It is a small, strongly built horse. “Polish Konik” is the name of a breed, not a name for every foal born in Poland. Koniks are used for leisure riding, driving and hippotherapy. They cope well with difficult weather and are good at finding food. They can get through a period with less forage and make up for it later.

Białystok's breeding history includes Goliat and Gigant, stallions born here in 2014 and 2015. Jasnota is a mare brought from Toruń. Each animal has its own story, even though they all belong to the same breed.
