Volkswagen Karmann Ghia
Italian body styling and engineering related to the Beetle.
Jazyk obsahu
The Karmann Ghia was one of Ewa Suchecka’s favourite cars. In 2014 it accompanied her to a motoring gathering in Sopot. Its elegant body sets the model apart from the more utilitarian Volkswagens in the collection.
The name Karmann Ghia brings together two companies. Italy’s Ghia designed the body, while Germany’s Karmann built it in Osnabrück. Volkswagen supplied the technical basis derived from the Beetle. Familiar mechanical components were given a very different outer form.
The Type 14 coupé entered production in 1955. It had 2+2 seating, with two seats in front and smaller ones behind. Its flowing lines, low roof and wide body gave it a distinct character, despite its relationship with Volkswagen’s popular everyday car.
Production of this coupé continued until 1974, spanning almost two decades of change in motoring. At Pępowo, the Karmann Ghia represents another direction in Volkswagen’s development: a car chosen partly for its appearance, alongside family cars and commercial vehicles.

The coupé was produced from 1955 to 1974. It had two seats in front and two smaller ones behind. This arrangement is called 2+2 seating.
