Paintings by Ľudovít Simonyi

Paintings donated by Ľudovít Simonyi became the foundation of the gallery's collection. The institution opened in 1992 as Hontianska galéria. Its first exhibitions already featured this painter from the Ipeľ region. His work was therefore present from the beginning, before the gallery adopted his name. Initially, the museum and gallery shared premises; in 1995 their activities were divided between two buildings.

The permanent display focuses on Simonyi's life and work. It presents his paintings alongside the memory of their creator, whose work gives the collection a distinct subject.

The gallery also holds temporary visual art exhibitions. This changing programme runs alongside the presentation devoted to its namesake. Moving the gallery into the former county hall made it possible to expand the permanent display of his work.
