O exponátu

Today’s large organ was built in 1909 by the Świdnica firm Schlag & Söhne. Its history reaches further back, however, as it replaced earlier instruments in the same church. It is helpful to distinguish the musical mechanism from the decorative façade known as the organ prospect.

The instrument has 62 stops and almost four thousand pipes. An organ stop controls a set of pipes with a particular tone colour. By combining stops, the organist can produce different sounds from the same instrument.

Two carved supporting figures, known as atlantes, hold up the Baroque façade. Angels playing musical instruments complete its decoration. This visual setting connects the organ with the church’s other richly carved furnishings, although the mechanism itself is much younger.

After a long period out of use, the organ sounded again in 2016 following extensive restoration. Both the instrument and its Baroque setting were restored. The church continues to host concerts and services, keeping music part of parish life rather than simply a memory of its historic furnishings.

Pro děti

An organ makes sound by sending air through pipes. This large instrument has almost four thousand of them. The organist selects sets of pipes, called stops, to change the colour of the music. This organ has 62 stops.

The Świdnica firm Schlag & Söhne built it in 1909. Its decorative case is older and includes angels playing instruments. For a long time, the organ could not be played. After restoration in 2016, it could once again provide music for concerts and church services.
