Drzonów’s TS-8 B II Bies is a Polish-designed aircraft manufactured in Mielec in 1959. It served exclusively in military aviation for almost twenty years, as a trainer and utility aircraft. Its history concerns learning to fly and the everyday work of military aviation, alongside aircraft designed specifically for combat.
After withdrawal from use and removal from the military inventory, the Bies was presented as a gift from Air Force Command. It joined the museum collection in May 1979. It was among the institution’s first large aviation acquisitions, arriving before the museum opened in its later form.
The Bies is one of the aircraft displayed under a roof. The exhibition pavilion was built in 1988 for smaller and more delicate objects. Among vehicles, artillery and missile launchers, this trainer introduces a distinct subject: the process of learning to fly. The surviving example connects its place of manufacture in Mielec, many years of military service and the early development of the Drzonów collection.
