O exponátu

Aircraft 0804 is a MiG-21bis, one of the later versions of the Soviet MiG-21 fighter. Its designers focused on improving performance at low and medium altitudes and extending its range. Although it resembled the preceding MiG-21MF externally, the changes included a lighter, stronger fuselage and increased internal fuel capacity. Beneath the familiar outline were modifications that cannot be seen simply by looking at the aircraft from the ground.

The principal change to its propulsion was the R-25-300 turbojet, with an additional afterburner setting for low-altitude flight. The equipment also included the RSBN navigation and landing approach system. MiG-21bis aircraft were produced between 1972 and 1982, with 2,030 examples built. A wingspan of 7.15 metres and a length of 14.10 metres gave the aircraft its characteristic proportions: narrow wings and a long fuselage. A MiG-21 was the first heavy exhibit acquired after the museum moved from Świdnica to Witoszów Dolny, before radar stations and personnel carriers joined the collection.

Pro děti

The aircraft numbered 0804 is a MiG-21bis. It belongs to one of the later versions of the Soviet MiG-21 fighter. Its designers wanted it to fly better at low and medium heights and travel farther. They changed the fuselage, the aircraft's main body. It became lighter and stronger, with room inside for more fuel.

The aircraft received an R-25-300 engine. It had an extra afterburner setting, which increased the engine's thrust during low-altitude flight. Equipment called RSBN helped the pilot navigate, or find the way, and approach the runway for landing. Some of the changes were therefore hidden inside the aircraft.

The MiG-21bis is 14.10 metres long. The distance between its wingtips is 7.15 metres. These proportions give it a long, narrow shape. This version was built between 1972 and 1982. A MiG-21 was the first heavy exhibit acquired after the museum moved from Świdnica to Witoszów Dolny.
