Cottage from Koce-Schaby
The interior of a petty noble family’s home shows its room layout and daily life over a century ago.
Jazyk obsahu
The cottage was built in the second half of the nineteenth century using log construction. The rectangular building measures 10 by 7 metres, and its hipped roof is thatched. Its interior presents the home of a multi-generational petty noble family at the turn of the twentieth century. Its asymmetrical plan is known in Polish as a trojak. The house divided its space between daily work, sleep and receiving guests, with all these functions fitted into a compact building.
The house has a two-bay layout: a large room also known as the kitchen, a second room, a small bedchamber and a corner vestibule with a storage room. Family life took place in the kitchen and adjoining bedchamber. The second room served as a reception room, while the bedchamber was used for sleeping and storing clothes. A narrow storage room opens off the vestibule, with stairs leading to the attic. The vestibule connected the rooms but also accommodated household tasks. Together with the store, it held small domestic implements. The bedchamber was a separate room rather than a recess in the wall; its use for sleeping distinguished it from the reception room.
