Lamus from Rudka
A wooden lamus built in 1761, now housing an exhibition on rural woodcraft.
Jazyk obsahu
A lamus is an estate storehouse; this one is now an exhibit in its own right. Built in 1761, it is made of pine logs joined in a log construction. The rectangular building measures 19 by 9 metres, and its hipped roof is covered with wooden shingles. The logs form the horizontal courses of the walls, while small wooden shingles cover the roof. Wood serves different purposes within the same building, forming both its walls and its roof covering.
The interior is divided into three chambers, each reached by a separate entrance from the porch. It houses the “Rural Woodcraft” display, devoted to the many uses of wood in village life. The material was used for homesteads, manor houses, churches, Orthodox churches, inns, mills and windmills, as well as furniture, household equipment, work tools and transport. The building and exhibition place a construction material beside the everyday objects made from it.
