O exponátu

A three-man crew distinguishes the T-72 from older tanks operated by four people. Its crew consists of a driver, commander and gunner; an automatic loader takes the place of a separate crew member loading the gun. The mechanism supplies ammunition to a 125 mm smoothbore gun. In the T-72 family, the ammunition magazine serving the loader sits below the turret floor.

The Soviet design was developed in the late 1960s and early 1970s. The driver sits at the front of the hull, the other two crew members work in the rotating turret, and the engine is at the rear. This creates three main internal sections: driving, fighting and engine compartments. Mrągowo’s T-72 is part of a collection that also includes the T-34 and T-55, allowing different generations of Soviet tank design to be compared. The division of work illustrates the change particularly clearly: a task previously carried out by a separate crew member was assigned to a mechanism, altering both the equipment and the interior layout.

Pro děti

Three people operate a T-72: a driver, a commander and a gunner. The gunner looks after the armament. Many older tanks also had a loader to handle ammunition. In this tank, a machine does that job. The automatic loader is a mechanism inside the vehicle, not an extra crew member. It works with a magazine below the turret floor and a 125 mm gun.

The driver sits at the front, two people work in the turret, and the engine is at the back. This layout helps explain where the different jobs were done. The T-72 was developed in the Soviet Union in the late 1960s and early 1970s. In Mrągowo it joins the earlier T-34 and T-55. Each type represents a different stage in tank development.
