A vehicle on a ZIL-131 chassis supported launchers of the KUB air-defence system.

The Polish abbreviation STZ means a transport and loading vehicle: its task was to carry missiles and transfer them to launchers. The museum’s example, based on a ZIL-131 chassis, belonged to the support equipment of the 2K12 KUB air-defence system. This system was developed in the 1960s and used by the Soviet Union and Warsaw Pact countries.
KUB was designed to engage airborne targets travelling at both subsonic and supersonic speeds. Its stated engagement envelope covered altitudes from 50 to 14,000 metres and distances from 3.5 to 24 kilometres. The exhibit represents the resupply stage, so transporting missiles should not be confused with launching them. In this collection of heavy military equipment, the vehicle adds specialised transport to the picture of weaponry: a launcher depended on such support to receive another supply of missiles.

Not every vehicle carrying missiles is a launcher. This truck had a different job: it brought missiles and transferred them to launchers.
