Factory Owner's Office
A reconstructed office of the owner of the Weese factory, a family gingerbread firm active in Toruń since the 18th century.
Jazyk obsahu
The reconstructed factory owner's office introduces a business that grew from a family workshop. Johann Weese began baking gingerbread in Toruń in 1760. Three years later, he married another gingerbread baker's widow and combined the two workshops. The business began through both craft production and family connections.
The founder's grandson, Gustav Traugott Weese, who lived from 1801 to 1874, developed the workshop into a confectionery enterprise. Under the name “Gustav Weese”, the company expanded production and its sales network. Its range included around 90 types of gingerbread. It had agencies in 13 European cities and branches in Gdańsk and Königsberg. In 1905 it also acquired a Halle factory. The company's expansion thus spanned successive generations of owners, rather than the work of one Gustav alone.
In 1939, the Toruń factory was sold to Społem. After the war, the plant received the name Kopernik in 1951. The reconstructed office and the owner's story complement the technical exhibits with a history of running the business: from two combined workshops to an enterprise with overseas branches. The Weese name remains associated with the former factory building.
