An exhibition in the cellar cells of the building that housed the district Office of Public Security from 1945 to 1956.
Jazyk obsahu
"The Chełm Security Service and Its Victims" is an exhibition in the former cells of the District Office of Public Security. The office occupied the building from mid-1945 to 1956. Those imprisoned here included members of the Home Army, Freedom and Independence, the Peasants' Battalions, the National Armed Forces and other organisations of the Polish independence underground.
The exhibits include documents and photographs. Early orders issued by the communist authorities illustrate the beginnings of the post-war apparatus of power. The photographs show people persecuted or murdered during interrogations and security service operations. Official documents appear alongside images of the people who suffered repression.
The independence underground also features in the final section of "Chełm Is Its Name…". There, it forms part of the town's history under communist rule, alongside daily life and industrial development. Here, the focus is on those imprisoned and persecuted.
