O exponátu

In 2023, Borysew opened a tiger pool with a transparent acrylic barrier six centimetres thick. The water enclosure makes use of a real feature of these cats: tigers swim well and enter water to cool down. White Bengal tigers first arrived at the zoo in 2009.

Pale fur does not mean a separate species or albinism. The white Bengal tiger retains its stripes and has blue eyes; it is a colour form of the Bengal tiger. Bengal tigers naturally inhabit forests and wetlands in southern Asia, including India and Bangladesh. Their connection with water therefore extends well beyond zoo enclosures.

A tiger hunts by stalking, approaching its prey before a short attack. Its diet includes deer and wild pigs. Strong forepaws help hold prey, while retractable claws retain their sharpness during walking. Tigers usually live alone; a female raising cubs is an important exception. This is a different way of life from a lion's social group, explored at the next stop.

Pro děti

A tiger can enter the water, swim and cool its body. In 2023 Borysew built a special tiger pool with a thick, transparent barrier. White Bengal tigers have lived at this zoo since 2009.

Their pale fur is a colour form, not the name of a separate species. The tiger still has stripes, and its eyes are blue. Wild Bengal tigers live in Asian forests and wetlands. They stalk animals such as deer and wild pigs when hunting. Most of the time they live alone. A mother tiger does stay with her cubs while raising them. Strong front paws help hold prey, and the claws can retract when the tiger walks. Swimming, stalking and gripping are different skills of the same large cat.
