Neolithic Hut - Gates of Time
A reconstruction of a Neolithic hut on the Orangery's first floor, part of the Megalithic Route - Gates of Time.
Inhaltssprache
The reconstructed Neolithic hut presents a home with human figures and tools used in everyday work. It belongs to the Megalithic Route - Gates of Time. The exhibition introduces the Funnelbeaker culture, whose first communities appeared in what is now Poland around 4200-4000 BC.
Keeping a settlement supplied involved raising animals and farming, supplemented by hunting and fishing. People made tools, spun thread and wove cloth. Clay spindle whorls were used for spinning: these small weights had a hole through which a spindle was inserted. They acted as flywheels, helping the spindle turn as the fibres were twisted. Spinning produced thread for further work, while weaving turned that thread into fabric.
Ornaments were made from amber, bone, clay and flint. Amber was shaped into tubular beads and discs with one flat and one convex side. Boar tusks and drilled dog and wolf teeth were also used for pendants and amulets. The reconstruction was created through cooperation between the Lider Pojezierza and WIR local action groups.
