Monument of Gratitude to the Park Makers
A monument with which August Heinrich von Borgstede honoured the architect and gardeners who laid out the palace park.
Inhaltssprache
The gratitude monument was commissioned by August Heinrich von Borgstede, the owner who modernised the Przelewice estate and had its park laid out. During his ownership, the peasants were emancipated and the estate was reorganised. Borgstede promoted efficient farming and livestock breeding. The monument honours not its patron but the people who created the park: the architect and gardeners.
The park was laid out in the English style over 248 morgens. A. W. Hildebrand designed it, while gardener C. T. Fuerstenau and his assistant C. Schrader carried out the work, supported by J. F. Jentsch and C. L. Weiss. Later owners, including Augusta von Prillwitz and her son, adapted the grounds to their needs. For a time, asparagus beds, orchards and vegetable plots occupied spaces between the old avenues.
In 1933-1938, Conrad von Borsig established a dendrological collection in the former park, marking the beginning of the arboretum.
