Über das Objekt

The Rice Threshold was about 2 metres high and blocked access to passages further inside the cave. It was removed when the tourist route was prepared. The chamber's name preserves the memory of this obstacle, although visitors no longer have to climb over it.

This is the highest point of the middle level of Jaskinia Niedźwiedzia, not the highest chamber in the entire system. Further on, stairs descend to the Cave Lion Chamber, the lowest point of the same level. The difference in elevation between these rooms shows that the middle level is not a flat passage. The cave has several levels altogether; only fragments of the upper one survive.

The Bat Chamber lies above this room. However, bats mainly inhabit the cave's lower sections and are also sometimes encountered along the tourist route. This does not mean a colony will be visible at the Rice Threshold on every visit. Here, living animals share the underground environment with traces of an older landscape: rock passages and chambers shaped by water. The next room introduces the bones of Pleistocene animals preserved in cave sediments.
