Engineering the Warsaw layout
How a miniature railway turns centimetres into metres, using scale, track and moving trains.
Inhaltssprache
Kolejkowo's Warsaw layout is built at a scale of 1:25. One centimetre in the model represents 25 centimetres in the real object, while a one-metre section represents 25 metres of its full-size counterpart. The ratio helps explain the proportions of a building beside a human figure and the size of the structures recreated in miniature.
The exhibition occupies about 1,000 square metres. Its miniature buildings, vehicles and scenes featuring people and animals are linked by a railway running between different parts of the city.
The track adds up to 580 metres. This is the length of the model railway network, not a walking distance for visitors; its sections form a transport system with bridges and tunnels.
Seventeen trains run on the tracks. Their movement connects the individual scenes: instead of viewing a stationary vehicle, visitors can follow a train through its surroundings, all built on a smaller scale.
