Closure and the Regional Museum
Damp walls caused a closure lasting several years; in 1967 the museum returned with a new display.
Inhaltssprache
On 1 October 1961, the Bolesławiec museum closed because of damp walls. The problem affected its former home on Mickiewicza Street, which the institution was using at the time.
Repairs did not begin until the middle of 1966. Almost five years therefore passed between the decision to close and the start of the work.
After renovation, the institution welcomed visitors as the Regional Museum on 17 June 1967. The Silesian Museum in Wrocław, then headed by Maria Starzewska, again helped arrange the exhibition.
The museum furnishings were designed and made under the direction of Władysław Garnik, a Wrocław-based artist and ceramicist. Renovating the building was therefore accompanied by work on how the collections would be presented. The name Regional Museum was short-lived: the following year, the institution became the Ceramics Museum and defined its collecting remit more precisely.
