Über das Objekt

The Lazuryt television has a new role in the museum: its casing was adapted to display the original Jacek and Agatka hand puppets used in broadcasts. The old receiver now holds the characters themselves, once familiar to viewers through its screen.

“Jacek i Agatka” made its television debut on 2 October 1962 as the first Polish bedtime programme. Wanda Chotomska created the siblings’ adventures; Jacek was Agatka’s younger brother. Adam Kilian designed their appearance. Two actresses operated the hand puppets, placing the programme within the history of television puppet theatre.

The programme ran for eleven years. Children could watch the siblings on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays at 7.20 pm. The museum’s collection also includes a vinyl recording titled “Jacuś i Agatka”. Alongside the original puppets, a sound recording of the pair’s adventures has survived.
