“In the Background” - Sets and Backgrounds

“W tle - scenografie i dekoracje w filmach animowanych” (In the Background: Sets and Backgrounds in Animated Films) focuses on the characters’ surroundings. It presents physical backgrounds and designs for sets and backgrounds: works involved in preparing the world seen on screen. Film frames form another group of material on display. An image from a finished film offers a different reference from a design or a background alone: it shows the scene as the viewer knows it.

A catalogue accompanies the exhibition. The curator-led tour announced for Saturday 29 August 2026 at 2 pm included a catalogue for every participant in its advertised offer. Its scheduled run at the Museum of Bedtime Cartoons is 16 May to 17 November 2026.
