Über das Objekt

The Apostolos contains the Acts and Epistles of the Apostles in Church Slavonic, a language used in Eastern Christian worship. The Łańcut copy belongs to the edition produced in Lviv by Ivan Fedorov in 1574.

The printer began work on this edition on 25 February 1573 and completed it on 15 February the following year. The text followed the version previously printed by Fedorov and Piotr Mścisławiec in Moscow in 1564. The Lviv book had a different ending, however: Fedorov replaced the formal afterword with his own account of his work as a printer. He described the history of his workshops in Moscow, Zabłudów and Lviv.

The copy held by the museum in Łańcut has undergone conservation. It is part of the Department of Church Art's collection of around 300 volumes of early Cyrillic printed books. The books were collected during efforts to safeguard church heritage, alongside icons and religious craftwork.
