Über das Objekt

The museum in the castle was organised from 1947 and opened to visitors on 16 February 1949. At that time the exhibition filled only part of the building, as several rooms were occupied by a library and tenants. From the start, the surviving interiors defined the character of the display, which presents living rooms of different periods.

The thorough restoration of the castle in 1962-1965 was preceded by archaeological and architectural research. In three chambers on the first floor, Gothic portals and 17th-century painted ceilings were uncovered from beneath later masonry. Earlier repairs left Baroque window openings, Neoclassical stucco work and parquet floors.

An important viewpoint inside is the Knights' Hall on the castle's first floor. Its south-facing windows look out over the Neo-Baroque part of the garden. After three years of work, in 1965, the museum reopened to visitors with a new display of manor house interiors. The interiors have often hosted film crews, and productions shot in Oporów include the television series "Rycerze i rabusie" and "Ekstradycja".
