Über das Objekt

The museum’s T-55 came from Warsaw, where it had stood for years as an exhibit outside a military command headquarters. Its well-preserved exterior did not mean that the interior was complete: the vehicle had previously served as a source of spare parts. Its museum history therefore includes the removal of components before its acquisition for the Fort No. 9 collection.

The T-55 was developed from the T-54 tank. The type was equipped with a 100 mm gun and a tracked running system. Its standard crew numbered four. The hull was welded from rolled armour plates, while the turret was cast. The different manufacturing methods help explain the contrast between the angular hull and the rounded turret.

Tanks of this family were manufactured in the Soviet Union and under licence in Poland and Czechoslovakia. This exhibit represents post-war armoured technology. Its presence in the collection does not mean that it took part in the fighting for Wrocław in 1945.

The museum allows visitors to enter the vehicle’s accessible interior. Check current availability before entering and follow museum rules. Children should visit with an accompanying adult.

This T-55 came to Wrocław from Warsaw. It had previously stood there as an exhibit outside a military command headquarters. Parts had been removed to use in other vehicles, so its good exterior appearance did not tell the whole story about the inside.

The T-55 was designed from the earlier T-54. It travels on tracks: wide bands made from connected links. Its gun has a calibre of 100 mm. Calibre measures the inside diameter of the barrel. A standard crew consisted of four people.

The hull was assembled from armour plates and welded together. The turret was cast, giving it a different, more rounded shape. Tanks of this type were built in the Soviet Union, Poland and Czechoslovakia. It is a post-war design, so being displayed in a Wrocław museum does not make it a participant in the fighting for the city in 1945.

The museum allows visitors to enter the vehicle’s accessible interior. Check current availability before entering and follow museum rules. Children should visit with an accompanying adult.
