Über das Objekt

What do you do with an armoured carrier that needs repairs in the field? That was the job of the SKOT WPT, a technical recovery vehicle. Its five-person crew helped recover damaged vehicles and carry out temporary repairs.

A folding crane with an 800 kg lifting capacity was used to lift heavy components. It had a working radius of 1.8 m and a lifting height of 3.6 m. A winch and a rigid tow bar helped move damaged carriers. This equipment allowed the crew both to recover disabled vehicles and to work on them in the field.

The interior was also adapted for repairs. The space where armoured carriers transported soldiers was fitted with racks with drawers for spare parts and tools, along with workbenches. The equipment also included a folding tent. The vehicle had no onboard armament and a combat weight of 14.58 tonnes.

This variant, designated SKOT S-260-WPT, was developed in 1969 at the Military Institute of Armoured and Automotive Technology. It was based on the SKOT S-260-1 carrier. The WPT version was built by Military Automotive Works No. 3 in Głowno, which specialised in repairing SKOT carriers. The vehicles served with maintenance subunits of mechanised formations, helping return damaged equipment to service.

These details describe the equipment of the WPT variant, rather than a complete inventory of items preserved in the museum vehicle today. The museum allows visitors to enter the vehicle’s accessible interior. Check current availability before entering and follow museum rules. Children should visit with an accompanying adult.

What happens when a military armoured carrier breaks down in the field? A SKOT WPT could come to help. WPT is a Polish abbreviation meaning Technical Assistance Vehicle. Its five-person crew helped recover the damaged vehicle and carry out repairs.

A folding crane came in handy for heavy parts. It could lift up to eight hundred kilograms. A winch and a rigid tow bar helped move damaged vehicles.

The mechanics also needed somewhere to work. Where an ordinary carrier transported soldiers, this variant had shelves for spare parts and tools, along with workstations. The SKOT WPT had no onboard armament. Its job was to provide technical assistance.

This describes the equipment of the variant. Some of these items may no longer be present in the museum vehicle. If you want to look inside, check with your accompanying adult whether the interior is currently open to visitors. Follow the museum’s rules.
