Über das Objekt

Fort II Zarzeczny formed a bridgehead on the right bank of the Biebrza. It supported the main citadel on the opposite bank; its name refers to that position across the river. The fort belonged to the complex built between 1882 and 1892. The valley crossing and railway bridge were important for connections towards East Prussia. Defence therefore covered the approaches as well as the bridge itself.

During the evacuation in August 1915, Russian forces destroyed almost the whole of Fort II. Its present condition cannot therefore be attributed solely to the Second World War: extensive destruction had occurred three decades earlier.

The ruins are not open to visitors. Some structures can be viewed from outside near the Kładka educational path. Being able to see them does not give permission to enter the remains or their interiors.
