Über das Objekt

The Knights' Hall, also known as the Ducal Hall, has a three-bay rib vault spanning more than nine metres. Stone ribs divide the surface overhead into regular sections. In 1766, a storm destroyed the palace roof and brought down the hall's earlier ceiling.

The interior was furnished anew in the nineteenth century. Wilhelm Christian Benecke, who bought Grodziec in 1823, installed sixteenth-century Swiss stained glass. The windows predated his restoration and came from another country. They represented a further stage in furnishing the residence, rather than an unbroken survival from the ducal period.

Further changes came with Bodo Ebhardt's major reconstruction of the castle in 1906-1908. A doorway connects the hall to a terrace along the palace's eastern elevation. The three bays divide the interior into repeating sections, giving the vault a regular rhythm across its considerable span.
