About

The synagogue was built in 1852. Its western façade has three entrance portals, with a tablet bearing a Hebrew psalm in the attic above. The building is one of the surviving traces of Šahy's Jewish quarter, where two synagogues remain. It should not be confused with the later Orthodox synagogue.

For many years the building served as a warehouse, including for grain. Its former religious furnishings were lost. However, the cast-iron columns of the women's gallery survived, preserving part of the interior's original arrangement. It is this structure, rather than a complete set of furnishings, that now bears witness to the building's religious function.

After restoration, the synagogue became a cultural venue called Menora Saag Centrum Artis. It hosts exhibitions, concerts, theatrical performances and conferences. The museum organises visual art exhibitions for the space. The former house of prayer now serves gatherings and art while retaining its architecture and the memory of the community for which it was built.
