About

Green Pond is the highest of the four Colourful Lakes. It occupies a hollow left by the former Gustaw mine on the wooded slope of Wielka Kopa. It is the smallest pool in the group, set apart from the lower pair of lakes and above Blue Lake. The approach continues uphill along the green-marked trail, which then heads towards the summit.

How much water fills the hollow depends on weather conditions. With insufficient rainfall, the pond can dry out, leaving the excavated depression exposed. Here, the shape of the ground also reveals the mining past. Gustaw was one of the workings in the local group of pyrite mines, and the pond formed when the abandoned hollow later filled with water. Its position at the end of the climb gives the walk a clear sequence: from the lower workings near Wieściszowice, past Blue Lake, to the highest trace of former extraction among these four pools.
