About the exhibition

“The World of Animals” contains more than 1,500 exhibits in the museum’s largest historic exhibition hall. Its arrangement by zoological groups brings together invertebrates, birds and mammals. The bird section covers 448 species, from ostriches to hummingbirds, as well as historical specimens of extinct species.

Mammals include the thylacine, platypus and echidna. The blue whale skeleton is also displayed here. The mollusc section includes the giant clam, pearl oysters and Nautilus, while beetles and butterflies are particularly well represented among insects. Different types of prepared specimens show both the animals’ appearance and their structure.
