From football at Wisłok Strzyżów to professional American football: Ryszard Szaro’s path to the NFL.
Content language
The exhibition combines the history of the Strzyżów football club Wisłok Strzyżów with the exhibition “Ryszard Szaro - from Strzyżów to the NFL”, presented at the museum since March 2023. Ryszard Szaro was born on 7 March 1948 in Rzeszów and spent his childhood in Strzyżów, where he attended primary school and trained as a footballer with Wisłok.
In November 1961, he emigrated with his family to the United States aboard the transatlantic liner “Batory” and later settled in New York. After years of education and a developing sports career in the United States, he reached the professional American football league.
On 12 October 1975, he made his NFL debut as a kicker for the New Orleans Saints in a game against the Green Bay Packers. He played 43 games for the Saints, scoring 37 field goals and 82 extra points. In 1979, he made one further appearance for the New York Jets, finishing his NFL career with a total of 44 games.
The exhibition brings together memorabilia connected with Ryszard Szaro’s life and sporting career - from his education at a primary school in Strzyżów and St. Francis Prep in New York to his appearances in the professional NFL.
