Content language
The gallery shows a selection from the museum's collection of contemporary Polish art, which numbers more than 6,000 objects. It includes painting, printmaking, drawing, sculpture, posters, textiles, ceramics and photography, as well as installations and documentation of art actions. It began with a deposit from the Central Bureau of Art Exhibitions in 1959, which became the museum's property in 1982. Alongside individual works from the interwar period, the core of the collection is post-war painting, starting with the post-Colourist current and Socialist Realism.
The heart of the display consists of works from the Golden Grape (Złote Grono) exhibitions, held in Zielona Góra in 1963-1981. The museum holds nearly three hundred such works by about 180 artists, mostly paintings and prints. Together they present Polish art of the 1960s and 1970s: from Colourism, through Informel and geometric abstraction, to metaphorical painting and conceptual tendencies. The picture is completed by works from the 1980s and 1990s, acquired mainly from the Zielona Góra Biennale of New Art (1985-1996).
The artists on display include Strzemiński, Dwurnik, Witkacy, Fałat, Opałka, Hasior and Nowosielski. Three multimedia stations tell the story of the artists and works and show archival photographs of the art events held in Zielona Góra.
