Sobre la pieza

Białystok's bears Chip and Dale are brothers born in 2014. They came to Akcent ZOO from Poznań, where they had found shelter after being transported from Kyiv. Their story therefore connects three cities and several zoological gardens.

Their enclosure lies below the surrounding ground level. It contains a water moat and a cave-like den, as well as a waterfall and features for play. The bears have places to cool off, walk and rest away from people's direct view. Watching from the path does not mean they will always remain out in the open.

The brown bear belongs to the order Carnivora, but eats a wide variety of foods. In Central Europe, plants form a large part of its diet: grasses, herbs, roots, fruit and nuts. It also eats insects and available animal food.

Before its winter sleep, it feeds intensively and builds up fat. Its weight therefore changes during the year. Autumn preparations and a long rest are parts of the same annual rhythm, linked to seasonal food availability.

Chip and Dale are bear brothers. They were born in 2014. Before settling in Białystok, they stayed in Poznań, having previously been transported from Kyiv. At Akcent ZOO, their enclosure has places to walk, play and rest.

Water in the moat helps them cool down. Their den looks like a rocky cave and provides shelter. A bear can choose to walk around or stay hidden, so you cannot always see it from the path. A quiet hiding place is an important part of its home.

Bears eat much more than the honey familiar from stories. Their natural diet includes fruit, nuts, roots, grasses, insects and animal food. Before their winter sleep, they eat more and store fat. This gives them energy for a long rest. Their appearance and weight can change with the seasons.
