Idioma del contenido
St Raphael's Chapel was consecrated on 17 September 2004 during the World Congress of Siberian Exiles. The ceremony was conducted by the Bishop of Pelplin, Professor Jan Bernard Szlaga.
The patron, St Raphael Kalinowski, took part in the January Uprising. Sentenced to death and then pardoned, he was exiled to Siberia and later became a Discalced Carmelite friar. He died in Wadowice in 1907. Father Edmund Kosznik, parish priest in Goręczyno, initiated the chapel's construction.
The pews came from the Shrine of Our Lady, Queen of Kashubia, in Sianowo. Beams incorporated into the building include timber from the fence of a Soviet labour camp in Kolyma, still carrying barbed wire, and from Jasna Góra.
The chancel wall was made from wooden elements of the 18th-century Siberian Exile House. The chapel also contains old beams from Granary Island in Gdańsk and original bunker components donated by former members of Gryf Pomorski.
