Historical Library Collection

The museum's historical library was established in 1902. Its holdings include specialist books and calendars published between the seventeenth century and 1924. The earliest printed works are therefore much older than the institution that collected them.

Among the surviving material are nineteenth-century administrative records of Hont County, compiled in book form. These documents show how the region was organised and described by its former administration, and provide material for researching local history.

The historical collection is intended for reading and research, not simply for admiring old bindings. Members of the public consult it in the reading room; loans outside the museum are available to members of the Friends of the Hont Museum and Gallery Club. Alongside the historic publications, the institution also maintains a modern scholarly collection covering subjects such as regional history, ethnography, archaeology and art history.
