Idioma del contenido
Panels arranged chronologically follow Brezno's literary life from the mid-seventeenth century onwards, with texts and images complemented by objects in display cases. The writers presented include Izák Caban, Ján Simonides, Ján Chalupka, Karol Kuzmány, Gustáv Kazimír Zechenter-Laskomerský and Elena Holéczyová. The survey continues beyond the Slovak national revival to Matej Tasler and František Kreutz, tracing later generations of the town's literary tradition. Ján Chalupka, author of the satirical Kocúrkovo, worked in Brezno as a pastor for 47 years, from 1824 to 1871.
Zechenter-Laskomerský was a mining and forestry physician, writer and naturalist whose interests included geology, mineralogy, caves and botany. Adolf Peter Záturecký collected Slovak proverbs and sayings, combining teaching with the documentation of oral tradition. His work included over 13,000 proverbs and variants, which he classified for a separate publication. Karol Kuzmány, a poet, journalist and organiser of literary life, became the first vice-chairman of Matica slovenská; his biography brings Slovak cultural institutions into the story.
