The beginning of the approach through successive levels of fortifications and open courtyards.

The first gate marks the entrance to the castle, after the climb through the village of Karlštejn. Beyond it, an ascending unpaved road leads towards the second gate. It is stony in places, with exposed sections of the underlying rock. Passing through the second gate brings visitors onto the main courtyard. This sequence of thresholds and levels comes before the palace interiors and castle towers.
The TourStories audio walk through the freely accessible grounds begins outside the first gate. It leads from the entrance towards the Well Tower, exploring the castle’s outdoor spaces. Parking directly outside this gate or driving into the courtyard is prohibited, even for vehicles displaying disability permits. The designated parking area for eligible visitors is approximately 300 metres from the entrance.
