Sobre la pieza

A boat passes beneath the model of Gdański Bridge on the miniature Vistula. Kolejkowo brings the crossing and river traffic together in one scene, showing the bridge from the water as well as from the perspective of a journey through the city.

The real bridge was built in 1957-1959 to a design by Janusz Ratyński. It formed part of the Stefan Starzyński Bridge Route and was constructed by Mostostal Warszawa.

The builders reused the piers of an earlier bridge near the Citadel. German troops had blown up that crossing on 13 September 1944, so the post-war project combined a new structure with surviving parts of its predecessor.

The design retained the earlier bridge's two-level arrangement. At the model, compare the bridge's height above the water with its division into decks: this distinguishes its structure from a crossing that carries traffic on a single level.
