Sobre la pieza

Original textile printing machines stand in the former workshops of the technical school at nábřeží Jiřího Wolkera 132. This separate museum location explores ways of applying patterns to cloth. The equipment is accompanied by sample books and textiles. The display presents the work of printers, designers, engravers and sample makers. It also includes a blueprinting workshop, illustrating the traditional technique that produces pale patterns on blue fabric.

A small printing workshop has been prepared for visitors, who can decorate fabric using handmade printing blocks. It connects the patterns on display with the act of transferring a printed impression onto cloth. The school programme includes guided tours, worksheets adapted to different age groups and an opportunity to try textile printing. The exhibition was created with partners including the municipal museum, Prague’s Museum of Decorative Arts, the National Technical Museum and the school housing the former workshops.

The former school workshops contain machines for printing on fabric. This part of the museum has a separate address: nábřeží Jiřího Wolkera 132. Alongside the equipment are textiles and sample books, collections of examples of patterns. They show the work of printers, designers and engravers who prepared tools for reproducing decorations.

In a small workshop, visitors can decorate fabric with a handmade printing block. The block transfers a pattern onto the cloth. The exhibition also includes blueprinting, a technique producing pale designs on a blue background. Guided tours and age-appropriate worksheets are available for schools. Looking at the equipment can be combined with trying printing.
