Ancient and Medieval Silesia
A permanent exhibition tracing Silesia’s history from the Stone Age to medieval towns.
Idioma del contenido
The permanent exhibition on three floors explores Silesia's prehistory and Middle Ages. Its earliest section covers the Stone Age and the beginning of the Bronze Age. Ice Age animal bones, flint tools and a shelter model introduce the earliest chapters of settlement. The Neolithic ram figurine from Jordanów represents another kind of object: an animal modelled in clay.
The sections devoted to the Bronze Age, Iron Age and Migration Period explore crafts, exchange and burial customs. Celtic objects, the Zakrzów treasure and amber from Partynice allow different kinds of finds to be compared. The reconstructed burial from Ługi places its equipment within the context of a whole grave.
The medieval section includes everyday objects, jewellery, clothing accessories and footwear. An important feature is a full-size thatched wooden house. Its recreated interior links individual vessels and tools with household tasks. Objects and reconstructions serve complementary purposes: the former are material traces of the past, while the latter help explain their surroundings.

This exhibition tells the story of ancient Silesia across three floors of the museum. First comes the Stone Age, with large animal bones, tools and a shelter model. There is also a clay ram from Jordanów.
Later sections show vessels, ornaments, weapons and amber. These objects tell us about work, trade and ancient burials. The reconstructed grave from Ługi helps us see finds together.
A full-size house stands in the medieval section. Its equipment shows how grain was ground, clothes washed and butter made. The exhibition combines genuine ancient objects with reconstructions of their settings. These are two different ways to understand the past.
