Christmas trees from around the world

Part of the museum's collection of several thousand exhibits is displayed on decorated Christmas trees. Ornaments are seen together as a complete arrangement, rather than only as separate objects. The American tree carries pieces made by Firma Biliński for a customer in the United States. The gallery also compares designs reflecting changes in American tastes over ten to fifteen years.

Victorian style is characterised by elaborate decoration. When comparing trees, the number of ornaments, their shapes and the combinations of colours matter as much as the country associated with an arrangement. French and Scandinavian trees have more restrained, sometimes almost monochrome colour schemes. Norwegian decorations provide a specific example of northern European festive design.

This section presents complete arrangements. The same kind of glass ornament can belong to a dense, multicoloured display or a scheme built around only a few shades.
