PTS-M

An amphibious transporter designed to carry heavy loads across water.

Idioma del contenido

Sobre la pieza

The PTS-M is an amphibious transporter: the same vehicle can travel on land and float, carrying its load across a water obstacle. On land it uses tracks, while two propellers provide propulsion in the water. Its design therefore combines two different ways of moving.

It transports vehicles and loads weighing up to 10 tonnes. This is its carrying capacity, not the weight of the transporter itself. Its cargo can include guns, armoured personnel carriers and both wheeled and tracked artillery tractors, the vehicles used to tow artillery. This role places the PTS-M within crossing logistics: equipment needed on the opposite bank must get there with the unit, even if it cannot float by itself.

Para niños

A river can stop a truck, but the PTS-M can float with a load on board. It is an amphibian, a vehicle that travels both on land and in water. On the ground it moves on tracks. In the water it uses two propellers, much as a ship uses a propeller.

The PTS-M carried vehicles and other loads weighing up to 10 tonnes. This is the weight it could carry, not its own weight. It also transported artillery equipment and vehicles used to tow guns. The exhibit shows how much military work involves delivering necessary equipment across difficult ground.
