Muzeum Mineralogiczne im. Kazimierza Maślankiewicza Uniwersytetu Wrocławskiego

More than two centuries of collecting lie behind the holdings of the Kazimierz Maślankiewicz Mineralogical Museum at the University of Wrocław. The collection began with the Mineralogical Cabinet established in 1811. Its specimens served teaching and research; this university character remains evident in the arrangement of minerals and the preservation of reference material.

The museum operates at two locations. Cybulskiego houses Minerals of Poland and Minerals of the World, presented in part in nineteenth-century cabinets. The Kuźnicza branch, opened in March 1994, brings together thematic collections: meteorites, precious and ornamental stones, agates, pegmatite minerals and collections donated by private collectors.

Some specimens come from old deposits that are no longer accessible. Others document the study of new minerals or the history of synthetic stones. The meteorite room compares iron, stony and stony-iron material, while regional collections lead to specific sites in Lower Silesia and Bavaria. The holdings comprise more than 30,000 specimens; the exhibitions present selected parts of this resource.

Minerals have different colours, shapes and origins. At the University of Wrocław Mineralogical Museum, you can learn about them in two buildings. The collection began in 1811 and also served students and researchers.

Cybulskiego presents minerals from Poland and around the world. Some stand in cabinets already used in the nineteenth century. Kuźnicza has collections devoted to meteorites, agates and gemstones, among other subjects. This branch opened in 1994.

Meteorites reached us from space. Other specimens come from Lower Silesian deposits or collections given to the museum. Some of their original localities are no longer accessible. Preserving samples helps preserve knowledge of those places. The museum has more than 30,000 specimens altogether and displays a selection of them.
