Idioma del contenido
Six wild boar, of different ages and sexes, form the largest group of animals in this diorama. They are accompanied by two badgers, a raccoon dog, a fox and two pine martens. The birds include two ravens and a buzzard, while three bats represent flying mammals. The scene brings together several groups associated with the forest landscapes of the Karkonosze Mountains. Its title links natural history specimens with local mountain storytelling.
The Mountain Spirit is a mythical figure who guards forests, wildlife and hidden treasures in traditional tales, changing his appearance along the way. In the nineteenth century he was portrayed as a monk, hunter, woodcutter or sorcerer, among other forms. These images belong to the history of the legend; the animals in the diorama represent real wildlife. Katarzyna Kielijańska and Tomasz Sokołowski devised and created the display.

The scene takes its name from the Mountain Spirit, a character in old stories. According to legend, he guarded forests, animals and treasures and could change his appearance. Nineteenth-century pictures showed him as a monk, hunter, woodcutter or sorcerer. He belongs to Karkonosze folklore, rather than being an animal species. Katarzyna Kielijańska and Tomasz Sokołowski created the display.
