The hidden weapons cache

Restoration of the castle in 1962-1965 brought the discovery of hidden weapons. A collection of old weapons from the 18th and mid-19th centuries was found in a hiding place under the floor. The weapons were probably hidden after the January Uprising.

The finds included a pair of 18th-century pistols made by the Küchenreiter firm. The cache also contained a set of arms with accessories from 1853. Today the museum holds an extensive collection of old edged weapons, firearms and protective armour, shown in the manor interiors exhibition.

Only a few of the museum's exhibits are directly connected with the history of the castle itself. They include duelling pistols from the 18th and 19th centuries. The rest of the collection grew through transfers, donations and purchases. The discovery beneath the floor therefore has a different provenance from objects acquired later for the museum.
