Sobre la pieza

The Brieger granite slab has two sides and two different uses. In the early 20th century it served as the gravestone of Friedrich Brieger and his wife Ernstine. Brieger was a Zielona Góra industrialist who owned a wine and sparkling wine company. This face of the stone preserved the memory of a family involved in the German city's wine industry.

After the war, the other side was used for a plaque dedicated to Władysław Broniewski, after whom Primary School Number 6 in Zielona Góra was named. The former gravestone thus became a public school plaque. The material remained the same; the name and the reason for commemoration changed. The two inscriptions connect the histories of the city's German and Polish inhabitants without erasing the difference between the slab's original and later uses. The most important detail of this object is on its other side.
