Sobre la pieza

The outdoor ornamental plant section was established in the 1960s to display plants suitable for parks, urban planting and home gardens. It occupies about two hectares in the western part of the garden, with the churches of Ostrów Tumski in the background. Around 4,000 ornamental varieties grow in the beds and groups of trees. Leaf shapes and colours also define the collection: red maples, golden yews and silver spruces stand alongside weeping, rounded and slender forms. Magnolias, cherries and apple trees flower in spring, while Japanese maples take on autumn colours.

The largest group consists of herbaceous perennials, plants that live for several years. Collections include irises, peonies, daylilies, cranesbills, astilbes, hostas and heucheras. Different flowering times change the colours through the season; the whole collection does not flower at once. Annual and seasonal plants supplement the beds, including marigolds, zinnias, begonias and verbenas. New garden varieties are also displayed, so particular planting combinations may change from one season to the next. Shrubs in the collection include hibiscus, azaleas, weigelas and spindle trees.

Ornamental plants are chosen for their flowers, leaves or overall shape. About 4,000 varieties grow in this part of the garden. The section was created in the 1960s to show plants suitable for parks and home gardens.

Magnolias, cherries and apple trees bloom in spring. In autumn, Japanese maple leaves stand out for their colours. There are also trees with hanging branches and shrubs with rounded shapes.

A large group consists of herbaceous perennials. These plants live for many years, like peonies, irises and hostas. They flower at different times. Gardeners also add seasonal plants, so the beds may look different the following year.
