Sobre la pieza

Owcza Góra Fort was the second strongpoint in Gerhard Cornelius von Walrave’s defensive plan. Together with the Main Fortress, it was intended to block an important road along the Nysa Kłodzka valley and improve control of the approaches. Built in the 18th century as an auxiliary fort across the valley, it is a separate part of the complex occupying a second hill, rather than a bastion of the Main Fortress.

Two lines of fortifications connected the strongpoints across the valley. A bridge and a sluice capable of raising the river level were built between them. Around 1779 an additional defensive belt in the shape of a seven-pointed star was constructed around the Lower Crownwork, adding a further layer of protection to the existing fort. A ramp descends towards the former customs gate beside the river. The layout thus connects the hilltop defences to the valley passage that the system was designed to secure.
