Bat Room
A 3D film introduces bats and their habitats in the Owl Mountains.
Idioma del contenido
A 3D film about bats forms part of Grodno's nature-themed displays. The room belongs to the Multimedia Bio-education Centre, and its subject is linked to the Natura 2000 site called Ostoja Nietoperzy Gór Sowich, or the Owl Mountains Bat Refuge. Instead of another room devoted to former castle owners, it introduces animals living in the surrounding region.
The protected site includes bat hibernation shelters in old mine tunnels, as well as feeding grounds. Rościszów has a breeding colony of the greater mouse-eared bat, one of the largest known summer colonies of this species in Poland. Winter shelters and summer breeding sites serve different purposes, so protecting bats involves more than a single underground passage.
The site also includes valuable meadows around Glinno and Zagórze and a patch of upper montane forest on Wielka Sowa. Natura 2000 protection therefore extends to varied habitats, not just places immediately associated with bats. The castle film belongs to a wider exhibition on the nature of the Góra Choina reserve and the Owl Mountains, installed within the historic building.
