Sobre la pieza

Ducal sarcophagi from the burial place in Brzeg form part of “Memoriae Piastorum Principum Silesiae”, an exhibition commemorating the Silesian Piasts. They are accompanied by medieval Piast tomb slabs, representing an earlier phase of the art of commemorating deceased members of the dynasty. Funeral publications containing sermons delivered at ducal funerals form a separate group.

A genealogical chart from 1722 traces the Piast rulers of Poland and Silesia. The display also includes copies of the figures of George II and Barbara from the castle gate facade, made in 1941. The exhibition opened in 2004, extending the museum's presentation of Piast history. Sarcophagi, stone memorials and printed texts demonstrate the different ways in which the dead were commemorated. The sculpted figures of the ducal couple recall the ceremonial imagery of the gate facade seen earlier.
