Langue du contenu
Przelewice Palace is the classicist residence around which the whole garden grew. A noble seat stood here as early as the Middle Ages, when the village belonged to the von Schack family. In 1799 the estate was bought by August Heinrich Borgstede of Berlin, whose high income allowed him to build a new house with a palace park. Work began in the early 19th century, and its completion is dated to 1814.
The building was designed by K. G. Langhans, one of the leading architects of early classicism in Prussia, while construction was led by Heinrich Gentz, then a building inspector. The palace has two storeys and is laid out on an elongated rectangle with a projecting central bay on the axis of the facade. Ionic columns stand in the rotunda hall, and fragments of polychrome decoration with plant motifs survive on its walls.
The terrace with its broad steps was added in 1920. Beneath the column hall, in a cellar once used to store wine, remnants of early 20th-century paintings with plant motifs have survived. After post-war devastation the building was rebuilt, and following a modernisation completed in 2024 it houses 17 guest rooms accommodating 65 guests and conference halls.
The guest room interiors are inspired by the nature of the Arboretum. The Palace houses a Training and Conference Centre.
Japanese tsuba
The Japanese Room displays Mikołaj Gaweł’s collection of tsuba. These decorative Japanese sword guards combine a protective function with artistic craftsmanship. Plant motifs on the exhibits echo the Japanese Garden, which can be visited on the same walk.
Other exhibitions
The Palace also houses an exhibition about Carl Ferdinand Busse. The Concert Hall presents “The Life Story of a Locomotive”: reproductions of paintings by Paul Meyerheim associated with the Borsig family, the former owners of the estate. Ogrody Przelewice provides current information about exhibitions and their availability.
